The process of Self Study is to begin to know and understand how we function as human beings. Before anything can change we need to acquire a working knowledge of this process.
Our ordinary education doesn’t engage with the principle of ‘Know Thyself’ and the outcome is that we have very little strength in our ‘Inner Core’, because we haven’t learnt how to feed it.
The body has three main energy centres which perform different tasks: there is the mental centre occupied with thinking: the emotional centre giving and receiving emotional responses and the physical centre which deals with matters of the body. Normally these three centres operate independently of each other but in the Gurdjieff work there is the aim to bring about a cohesion between them. The combined working of all three centres creates a wholesomeness and this helps us to mature as integrated human beings.
